Beyond the 9–5: Sima Malla’s Path to Nepal’s First Candle Bouquets
What happens when a corporate employee follows her curiosity? Discover how a single TikTok video inspired a journey from a steady 9–5 to the creation of Nepal’s first Candle Bouquet business. A story of persistence, wax alchemy, and the courage to fill a gap in the market.

For many, a 9-5 job in accounting represents the pinnacle of stability. But for Sima Malla, the steady rhythm of numbers couldn't quiet a lifelong urge to create. This is the story of how a single moment of curiosity on social media sparked a brand-new niche in Nepal’s artisanal market.
While Sima valued the stability of her corporate role, she felt a pull toward something more tactile and creative. The turning point arrived on an ordinary day during a casual scroll through Tiktok, when she came across a vibrant floral bouquet that looked breathtakingly real, until she looked closer - it wasn't flora; it was wax.
Amazed by the craftsmanship, Sima immediately began researching the local market. What she found was a golden opportunity: while jar candles were common, Candle Bouquets were non-existent in Nepal.
"That gap in the market stayed in my mind. I realized that if this beautiful art form didn't exist here yet, it was up to me to bring it to life." Sima recalls.
The transition from accountant to artisan was a path paved with challenges. The specialized silicone molds required for floral shapes were unavailable locally, forcing Sima to take a financial risk by sourcing them from abroad.
Once the tools arrived, the real "science" began. Sima spent countless hours experimenting with different materials:
-
Soy Wax: Beautiful and natural, but too soft for structural bouquets.
-
Paraffin & Beeswax: Finding the right balance for durability and detail.
There were moments of frustration - cracked petals, melted shapes, and wasted supplies. But where others saw failure, Sima saw a balance sheet that needed adjusting. She persisted until she perfected a high-quality mixed wax blend that could hold the intricate beauty of a flower while maintaining the soul of a candle.
Sima’s vision was to create something that didn't just disappear after a few hours of burning. She designed her bouquets to be gifted, displayed, and admired. Unlike real flowers that wither in days, her wax bouquets became a lasting symbol of affection.
As her hobby evolved, so did her business acumen. Sima moved beyond the craft to master customer preferences, pricing strategies, and feedback loops. The ultimate milestone came in January 2026, when she officially registered her business, transforming her "passion project" into a fully-fledged professional venture.
Today, looking back at her journey, Sima realizes that her success didn't come from a perfect plan, but from the courage to act on a "what if?"
"This journey taught me that sometimes, all it takes is curiosity and the bravery to try. Every candle I pour is a reminder that you can always build your own light."
